PM meets Defense Minister of the Kingdom of Sweden

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili met with the Defense Minister of the Kingdom of Sweden Peter Hultkvist.

The meeting focused on the friendly and partnership relations between the two countries, especially in the field of defense. It was stressed that 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Kingdom of Sweden, which once again confirms the strong partnership between the two countries.

The official application submitted by Georgia on EU membership was also discussed. The Prime Minister stressed the special importance of the Allies’ support in this process. According to Irakli Gharibashvili, Georgia appreciates the support of the Kingdom of Sweden for the irreversible process of integration into the European Union and the European reform agenda.

Peter Hultkvist reaffirmed to the Prime Minister the Kingdom of Sweden’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The meeting at the Government Administration focused on the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine and reiterated Georgia’s political support and solidarity with Ukraine, including in international formats. The role of the international community in making every effort to end the war as soon as possible was emphasized.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to Georgia Ulrik Tidestrom, Director of the Defense Policy Department Johan Lagerlof and the Georgian Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze attended the meeting.
