PM launches multifuncional sport complex with Ilia Topuria

No one could have foreseen 4-5 years ago that the UFC belt would be in Rustavi or that an exceptional individual like Ilia Topuria would bring it to the city. It was announced by Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia when launching a multifunctional sports complex in Rustavi today, the Government Administration reported.

The Head of Government of Georgia visited the newly constructed venue together with Ilia Topuria, UFC Champion.

According to the Prime Minister of Georgia, Rustavi is a special city with dignified, talented people and one of such stellar examples is Ilia Topuria.

“Sports have a special significance in many aspects. It means health, lifestyle, bright thinking and protection from malign habits. Therefore, special attention should be paid to the development of sports. This day is a manifest to that” stated the Prime Minister of Georgia.

The Head of Government expressed gratitude to all those people who contributed to the construction of the multifunctional sports complex, singling out Irakli Karseladze, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure; Asian Development Bank, Ministry of Culture and Sports, State Representative in the region, Mayor of Rustavi and Members of Parliament representing the local electorate.

“It is an outstanding day in many aspects. We are celebrating an unimaginable success. It is the launch of the sports complex and UFC belt in Rustavi. Ilia Topuria is a stelar example of talent this city offers. He exemplifies how much may be done by a Georgian man for his homeland. I thank Ilia Topuria for his patriotism and great success that he brought to our country” added Irakli Kobakhidze.

Welcoming remarks were also made at the launch of the sports complex by Ilia Topuria, UFC Champion; Irakli Karseladze, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure; Nino Latsabidze, Mayor of Rustavi.

Main hall of the roofed multifunctional sports complex in Rustavi will serve 8 olympic sports types. It will be possible to hold basketball, volleyball, handball, mini football, boxing, wrestling, judo, fencing tournaments and trainings at the venue.

Seats are available for 1500 spectators visiting this facility. Multifunctional sports complex is fully adapted to persons with disabilities.

Project has been carried out by the Municipal Development Fund (MDF) of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia (MRDI) with financial support allocated by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the volume of 24 MLN GEL.
