PM Kobakhidze: We welcome all formats for discussion, including CoE proposals

“We are open to discussion in any format. If a specific format is created, including the one proposed by the Council of Europe, of course, we are open here as well. Consequently, there is complete alignment between our messages,” stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during a briefing at the Government Administration.

The Prime Minister stated that the government is open to revising the transparency law if there is sufficient justification.

“Our messages do not differ. We are open to discussion in any format. If a specific format is created, including the one proposed by the Council of Europe, of course, we are open here as well. Consequently, there is complete alignment between our messages. Regarding the revision of the law, there is one main thing here – we need to be shown where this law violates legal principles, where such flaws are justified, and that there are legal gaps, of course, we are ready for revision. Accordingly, we are practically repeating what Mr. Alain Berset is saying,” stated the Prime Minister.

The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, stated at a press conference in Tbilisi that all forces in Georgia are obligated to engage in discussion and respect democratic principles. According to him, the Council of Europe is ready to facilitate dialogue.
