PM Kobakhidze says radical opposition is in dire straits, predicts his party will win local race by large margins

“We see how dire the situation is for the radical opposition. They are even fighting among themselves. In any format, we will win both mayoral and council elections by large margins in all 64 municipalities,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze declared.

According to Kobakhidze, this is evidenced by, among other things, polling data.

“We see how dire the situation is for the radical opposition. They are even fighting among themselves—two parties are criticising two other parties for deciding to participate in local self-government elections. This is not interesting to us. In any configuration, in any format, we will win both mayoral and council elections by large margins in all 64 municipalities. This is evidenced by, among other things, the polls we have and the overall picture.

Everyone sees what public attitudes are like. Society sees very clearly and evaluates everything, which is why the radical opposition in our country is absolutely discredited. You could see that throughout these four years, these people—radical opposition politicians—did everything to damage national interests. They did everything to prevent us from receiving the EU candidate status, to prevent negotiations from opening with Georgia, and so on. The list of anti-national, anti-state actions is quite extensive. Under such conditions, no one should be surprised that the opposition is even more weakened than it was a year ago, before the parliamentary elections. Accordingly, the opposition in any configuration is doomed to a very heavy defeat,” Kobakhidze stated.
