PM Kobakhidze: Georgia ready for EU accession talks, now decision depends on EU

“We have a very stable situation in Georgia. The country is growing economically and in many other directions. We steadfastly follow the path of the country’s development,” stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in response to a PhoenixTV journalist’s question in the United Arab Emirates.

According to the Head of Government, the country is essentially ready for the EU accession negotiations.

“Now this decision depends on the European Union. We are ready for this. At the same time, we firmly follow the path of country’s development and implementation of reforms. So, the country will achieve even greater progress,” noted Irakli Kobakhidze.

When asked whether the country needs to wait another four years before starting the accession negotiations, the Prime Minister noted that this depends on the European Union.

“We have very clearly stated that if the European Union makes this decision, we are ready for it. Improving relations with the EU is in our interests. Let’s wait and see what approach the European Union chooses,” stated Irakli Kobakhidze.
