PM instructs Economy, Agriculture Ministers to engage in Namakhvani HPP dispute
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili instructed Economy Minister Natia Turnava and Agriculture Minister Levan Davitashvili to visit Tsageri municipality and meet locals to address Namakhvani HPP-related questions.
PM also requested the Cabinet to hold parliamentary committee hearings in this regard.
“There are questions that should be answered comprehensively and professionally. Energy security, energy independence are among Georgia’s main priorities,” PM added.
The Human Rights Training and Monitoring Center (EMC) said on March 3 that Namakhvani HPP construction poses several risks to the country.
After studying the contract conditions, EMC stressed that the agreement between the Georgian government and the Turkish company ENKA Renewables Ltd is favourable for the investor.
The Georgian government and ENKA Renewables Ltd signed a perpetual build-own-operate agreement back in 2019. ENKA has been awarded the rights to develop, construct, own and operate the Namakhvani HPP Cascade Project in Georgia.
