PM: I would not discuss August War before elections; prefer people to anew decided on UNM on election day
„We defended the positions and dignity of the Georgian army and did not allow anyone to accuse the Georgian army of what it did not do. United National Movement (UNM) accused the Georgian army of a war crime that it did not commit,“ said the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, on Thursday.
Kobakhidze stated that „if the UNM had been in power during the August War court proceedings, the outcome would have been completely different.“
“We won two key court cases, one in The Hague and the other in Strasbourg. In one example, Russia accused our forces of war crimes, while the Georgian military was accused of breaching human rights.”
Kobakhidze noted that he would not discuss the August War investigation before the election.
“I did not bring up the subject, thus I am not the addressee. I would not discuss this matter before the elections; the Georgian people have already given judgement on this political force, especially the most serious crime perpetrated by UNM in August 2008. I would prefer that on election day, the voters once again decide on UNM,“ Kobakhidze remarked.
