“The Government of Georgia values assessments based on objective reality. The EU report serves specific political interests,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said during the press briefing.

The PM reviewed the 2025 developments in the country.

“Recall the year of 2025 when they spoke about repressions. Georgia turned out to be the only country in the world where the capital city’s central avenue was closed for the whole year, from January 1 to December 31.

Then we adopted a law against it, and they called it a draconian law against freedom of assembly. Name even a single European Union member state where 150, 100, or sometimes 50 people blocked the capital’s central avenue for a year or more, and then let us discuss the objectivity of that conclusion. This opinion serves specific political interests, and the interest was that foreign agents, despite their scarcity in number, had to change the government. This failed because we approved laws which opposed it, and they called these laws draconic.

We passed a law on transparency of foreign influence, and they called it a Russian law. This does not sit well with the bureaucracy that operates in accordance with the interests of the so-called ‘deep state’ and the ‘global war party.’ This is the actual reason why some bureaucrats express concern about the developments in Georgia,” he said.
