PM: Government proposes increased excise tax rate instead of ban on import of motorcars older than six years
“We introduced new regulations on the import of motorcars older than 6 years, but made certain corrections. Instead of banning imports, we propose a customs clearance fee of 4.5 GEL, i.e. the excise tax will be set at this amount,” said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze at the government meeting.
The PM explained that a higher customs clearance will be set for the import of motorcars older than 6 years.
“The excise tax will be set at the appropriate amount, 4.5 GEL per cube. Accordingly, the import ban will be replaced with an increased excise tax rate. This is a significant decision to contribute to ecology, environment protection, and air quality. We guided with this motivation when making some adjustments to the regulations serving the interests of both citizens and private entities,” he said.
