PM: Georgia improves PISA results across all major areas

Georgia has improved its performance across all major areas assessed by the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), with the country recording its best results of the past decade in mathematics and science, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said at a government meeting.

According to the prime minister, Georgia ranked first among the 91 countries participating in the study in terms of improvement in science performance.

“The PISA results in education have been published. The study once again assessed the performance levels of school-age children, and we are pleased to report that Georgia has improved its results across all major areas. In mathematics and science, the country achieved its best results of the past decade.

“In science, in terms of improvement in performance, Georgia ranked first among the 91 countries participating in the study. Against the backdrop of a global decline in performance, Georgia is maintaining a stable upward trend,” Kobakhidze said.

He also highlighted a decline in the share of low-performing students, saying Georgia ranked among the top three countries out of 91 in terms of improvement in this area.

“The gap in performance between students in urban and rural schools has also narrowed. This is a very important indicator in terms of ensuring equality,” the prime minister said.

According to Kobakhidze, the study also found that Georgia’s indicators regarding the learning environment, students’ sense of belonging to school, discipline and levels of bullying were at or above the international average.

“We cannot be satisfied with these results either. Despite the significant trend of improvement, we still have shortcomings and many areas that need improvement. This is precisely what the education reform concept we have presented to the public is focused on, both at the higher and general education levels.

“Proper implementation of our reform plans will ensure further improvement in the performance of our school students in the medium and long term,” Kobakhidze said.

According to Georgia’s Ministry of Education, the results of the 2025 PISA study have been published. Compared with the 2022 assessment, Georgia improved its performance across all major areas, recording its best results of the past decade in mathematics and science.
