“Georgia is going through a time of geopolitical challenges. Our responsibility is to navigate this moment with wisdom and patience to keep the peace and allow the country to develop,” Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili remarked in his inaugural statement to the Legislative Assembly of La Francophonie (APF).
The PM describes hosting the APF in Georgia as a “great privilege, honour, and delight.” Irakli Garibashvili commended the session organizers for the brilliant idea of holding the event in Tbilisi.
“Georgia’s French-speaking family, of which I am and am delighted to be a part, is definitely one of the most vibrant and dynamic in the world,” the PM said, adding that the French language was very valuable to him after completing studies in France.
Georgians admire French literature, according to Irakli Garibashvili, and Agora Publishing specializes in translating and editing French-language works. Georgian film directors, painters, and scientists all maintain close links with France. Georgian students who desire to study at French universities can apply for scholarships from the Georgian government.
Last year, Georgia inked a framework agreement on researcher cooperation with L’Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) and the Georgian Education Ministry. The Prime Minister expressed his hope that the event would help to popularize France and the French language in Georgian diplomatic and political life.
“La Francophonie and the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie are made up of men and women who recognize the value of ideals like peace, freedom, and solidarity. In this globally challenging time, we shall convey our values. Georgia is going through a time of major geopolitical challenges. Our responsibility is to navigate this moment with wisdom and patience, to remain aware, and to act intelligently to maintain peace and to allow the country to develop to meet the aspirations of our people,” Irakli Garibashvili stated.
The Parliament of Georgia is hosting the 48th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie (APF).
