“I want to condemn what happened yesterday. Violence against journalists is categorically unacceptable,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili commented on the events that developed in Tbilisi yesterday at the anti-Tbilisi Pride rally.

“First of all, I want to tell you that the violence we saw yesterday is completely unacceptable to me. I want to condemn this fact publicly. What happened yesterday is categorically unacceptable. Violence against journalists, against you, is unacceptable and condemnable. The police are working very actively. They arrested three people this morning and several people yesterday for an administrative offence. Everyone, who committed violence, will be identified and, of course, punished,” Irakli Garibashvili said.

Opponents of Tbilisi Pride aggressively attacked journalists in Rustaveli Avenue and surrounding areas yesterday. Representatives of various media outlets, including Georgian Public Broadcaster’s cameraman Ilia Tvaliashvili, suffered injuries. The Interior Ministry detained several people for illegally thwarting professional activities of media by physical violence and threats of violence during the rally on Rustaveli Avenue.
