Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia hosted a delegation of the Venice Commission on its official visit to the country, which is led by Simona Granata-Menghini, General Secretary of the Venice Commission.
The meeting held within the Government Administration was focused on the cooperation between Georgia and Venice Commission, which is advancing in a dynamic manner.
According to the government’s press office, the Head of Government of Georgia expressed his gratitude to Simona Granata-Menghini for the constructive cooperation and for the contribution made in the approximation of the legislation of Georgia with European standards, thereby noting that the Venice Commission plays a significant role in the consultations on the legislative and regulatory framework of the country, as well as in the consolidation of democratic institutions in Georgia.
“Focus was made on the recommendation made by the European Commission to the European Council on granting the status of an EU Candidate Country to Georgia.
The PM noted that the historic decision of the European Commission shapes the European future of Georgia. As noted by Irakli Garibashvili, the country continues to advance on its journey to the EU in a significant manner and that it is vital to have an effective partnership with the Venice Commission within this process. The Prime Minister of Georgia shared information with the visiting delegation on the reforms already implemented on the path of European integration.

The meeting was attended by Michael Frendo, Vice-President of the Venice Commission; Eirik HolmØyvik, Member of the Venice Commission; Tania Van Dijk of the Venice Commission Secretariat; Natalia Voutova, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Tbilisi; and Revaz Javelidze, Head of Government Administration of Georgia.
