PM expects positive decision regarding EU candidate status

I believe and we hope that in October, the European Commission will address the Council with a positive recommendation, and by the end of the year, Georgia will receive candidate status, said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili during a joint press conference with Joseph Borrell, the EU High Representative/Vice President of the European Commission.

Garibashvili emphasized that over the past decade, the government has implemented significant and tangible reforms on the path to European integration.

“I would like to remind our friends once again that over the past decade, our government has implemented important and tangible reforms. If anyone, any political force in Georgia achieved concrete results on the country’s path to European integration, it is the ruling Georgian Dream party.

We signed an Association Agreement, established free trade, secured a visa-free regime, and last year, we obtained a European perspective. I believe, and we express our hope, that in October, the European Commission will recommend positively to the Council, and by the end of the year, the country will receive candidate status,” stated Irakli Garibashvili.
