PM: Legislative mechanisms must ensure respect for constitutional order
“Everyone must respect the Constitution and the constitutional order. If someone fails to do so, there must be legislative mechanisms to ultimately ensure this,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists in Dubai.
“I am reminded of the recent precedent of the German Constitutional Court, which banned a party-like formation, not formally a political party, partly because it did not recognize the constitutional order established in Germany. This is an entirely logical practice, and international experience confirms it. In our case as well, it is crucial that the relevant principles are observed. A constitutional order operates in Georgia, and everyone must respect the Constitution and that order. If someone does not, there must, of course, be legislative mechanisms to ensure compliance,” Kobakhidze said.
