PM: Elections were fair, free, competitive, no problem with openness
“The elections were fully fair, free and competitive and therefore, there is no problem with openness,” said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
The PM thanked the Central Election Commission (CEC) for its openness remarking on its request to the Prosecutor’s Office to launch an investigation into election fraud allegations which, in the PM’s words, means that “neither the CEC nor anybody has anything to hide.”
“The elections were fully transparent, democratic and fair in our country and the openness demonstrated by the CEC is an expression of that. I am grateful to the Prosecutor’s Office, which responded immediately to the CEC application. Everything will be transparent for everybody to look into.
The elections were fully fair, free and competitive, therefore, there is no problem with openness. Everybody can verify everything. We can take into account the calls of Western politicians, including Borrell’s call for an investigation to probe into irregularities and this initiative is crucial,” he said.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia launched an investigation into election fraud allegations following the recent parliamentary elections by the President, opposition political parties and local observers at the October 30 request of the Central Election Commission (CEC).
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili is summoned for interrogation on October 31.
