The Constitutional Court of Georgia, as one of the key pillars of the country’s constitutional order, plays a vital role in strengthening Georgian statehood and advancing Georgian constitutionalism, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said.

He made the remarks while addressing an international conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of Georgia.

According to the prime minister, the 30-year history of the Constitutional Court, like the history of Georgian constitutionalism, has been marked by numerous challenges.

“Congratulations on the 30th anniversary of the Constitutional Court. The Constitutional Court of Georgia, as one of the key pillars of the country’s constitutional order, plays a vital role in strengthening Georgian statehood and advancing Georgian constitutionalism.

The 30-year history of the Constitutional Court of Georgia, like the history of Georgian constitutionalism, has been marked by numerous challenges. We can conditionally divide this history into three decades. The first decade was a particularly important period in establishing the Constitutional Court of Georgia as a constitutional institution.

I would like to thank the first presidents of the Constitutional Court of Georgia, Mr. Avtandil Demetrashvili and Mr. Joni Khetsuriani, as well as each of the first-generation judges, who laid the foundations for the establishment of the Constitutional Court of Georgia as an independent constitutional institution,” Kobakhidze said.
