PM: After recent meeting partners seem ready to discuss Transparency Bill provisions
After recent meeting with our partners, it seems they are ready to discuss the provisions of the Transparency of Foreign Influence bill, the Georgian Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, stated.
Kobakhidze stated that partners seem ready to constructively engage and discuss the draft law.
“I observe positive changes. After our last meetings, I sensed a readiness for discussion on the specific norms of the law. I explained to our partners that positions can be reconciled within the veto procedure. We know that Salome Zourabichvili [Georgian President] herself doesn’t always draft such veto bills; they are either written by NGOs or come from external sources.
Therefore, we may use this mechanism to reconcile positions on the bill. When the veto enters the parliament, it must be formulated as a specific bill, which compels the provision of specific feedback.
Until then, we remain open and ready for discussion and reconciliation. We welcome the recent trends, which indicate more constructive elements. Previously, there were only general statements opposing the law without any specifics. Now, there is a readiness to take a constructive approach and engage in discussions regarding the proposed law, which we fully support,” said Kobakhidze.
