Péter Szijjártó wants EU to ensure level playing fields, avoid double standards with respect to Georgia

“We are definitely against the behaviour of Brussels when it comes to Georgia. We want the European Union to ensure level playing fields and not to apply double standards,” Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian Foreign Minister, told Georgian reporters in Antalya.

According to the Hungarian FM, with President Trump, international politics could come back to the basis of mutual respect.

We have an understanding that Brussels does consider democracy to be in danger whenever it’s a right-wing conservative government winning elections. And only in the case of the liberals winning the elections, it is considered to be a democracy. So this is bad, and we will try to influence things in order to improve.”

I think with President Trump, international politics can come back to the basis of mutual respect, pragmatism, more rationality, less ideologisation, less political influence, less interference into domestic issues of each other.

So, I think that it was too much what the Democrats’ administration and Brussels together used to be doing in interfering with the domestic issues of others. Putting pressure, cutting the financial funds of USAID is a move, which we cherish a lot because that decreases the financial funds for those who have been interfering into domestic issues of other countries,” he said.
