Peter Stano: Hope to resume full-fledged operation with Georgian authorities if upcoming elections will be free, fair

The EU Foreign and Security Policy Lead Spokesperson, Peter Stano, on Monday, said “There are no dedicated EU missions helping Georgia to increase its resilience to fight foreign interference and disinformation because unfortunately in this case, the disinformation comes from the official side.”

“But we are still continuing helping Georgia with another mission which is the monitoring mission which is there due to monitor the situation with breakaway formations of south Ossetia and Abkhazia,” Stano said during the press point.

He hoped that “it will be possible to resume full-fledged operation with Georgian authorities if upcoming elections will be free, fair and according to the international and European standards.”

“Our support to Georgia has been multifaceted, and we were working with partners in Georgia, especially in the Georgian government until recently quite intensively on many issues but than there was big difference happening in Georgia, and that happened when officials from the authorities started to use disinformation against the EU, and that’s why our relationship took a slightly different turn, which was discussed several times this year at the Foreign Affairs Councils, by the foreign ministers and by the leaders of the European Councils, so there are no dedicated EU missions helping Georgia to increase its resilience to fight foreign interference and disinformation because unfortunately in this case, the disinformation comes from the official side, from governing authorities but we are still continuing helping Georgia with another mission which is the monitoring mission which is there due to monitor the situation with breakaway formations of south Ossetia and Abkhazia and we hope that it will be possible to resume full-fledged operation with Georgian authorities if upcoming elections will be free, fair and according to the international and European standards,” Stano stated.
