Patriarchate: Enactment of Law On Family Values and Protection of Minors positive step forward

Patriarchate of Georgia deems the enactment of the law On Family Values and Protection of Minors “a positive step forward,” saying the law is a “decisive step in protecting the values that determine the identity of the Georgian nation.”

According to the Patriarchate’s press office, “the protection of family values has become an important challenge in Georgia and many countries.”

“The Church of Georgia has constantly protected and protects our youth from ideologies that undermine traditional family structures.

A few years ago, the textbooks for students and teachers caused sharp and fair criticism of the Patriarchate of Georgia, because some of the topics of these textbooks openly emphasized the decline of family values.

It took a long and active effort to remove passages containing LGBTQI propaganda from the teaching resources as educational textbooks must be consistent with our fundamental values.

Furthermore, the proliferation of LGBTQI propaganda has frequently resulted in considerable social divisions and has even become an instrument of tension in the hands of those seeking to deepen polarisation.

Considering the said trends, the Georgian government’s law On Family Values and Protection of Minors is a positive step forward,” reads the statement.
