“The situation in international space and particular regions is alarming and threatening. In such conditions, Georgia’s policy to preserve peace is welcoming, and should continue so in the future,” said Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II.
Patriarchal locum tenens Shio Mujiri of the Georgian Orthodox Church spoke (GOC) spoke the significance of peace at the Holy Synod meeting saying the Patriarch released his statement on Russia-Ukraine war in the fist days of the military hostilities calling for immediate ceasefure, otherwise the war would bring grave consequences.
According to Shio Mujiri, the developments in Near East acquired a larger scale posing a threat to the world and resulting in casualties of innocent people, destruction of infrastructure and violence on religious grounds.
“We express our deep sorrow and sympathy to those affected by the war. Terror, cruelty, injustice are unequivocally condemnable and its direct or indirect support is unacceptable for the civilized world. We join the prayers of goodwill people and ask God to bring peace to Ukraine, the Holy Land and the whole world,” reads the text.
The Patriarchate published the November 2 Holy Synod meeting decision on Friday.
