Tbilisi State University performed a great contribution, which should be carried out by the church, but could not because of the communist regime – said the Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II during the opening ceremony of the 100th anniversary of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU).

“Congratulations on this historic day. Congratulations on the celebration of our great King David the Builder. First of all, I would like to congratulate the people who laid the foundation of the Tbilisi State University. I want to congratulate the person who first blessed the university – His Holiness and Beatitude Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Kirion. He performed the church service of blessing the University. The university is an indicator of Georgian culture, Georgian past, present and future; this is an indicator of our intellect, our spirituality.  After the foundation of this university, Georgia has passed through a difficult period, but contribution of the university is invaluable… The university, who has such a big past, such professors, definitely will have a great future”, – said Ilia II.

The Patriarch blessed students, professors, teachers and the whole Georgia.
