Patriarch Ilia II hospitalised after sudden deterioration in health

Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II, has been admitted to the Caucasus Medical Centre following a deterioration in his state of health. The Patriarch is currently under close medical supervision.

According to available information, His Holiness’s condition worsened overnight. The Minister of Health and attending physicians have confirmed that he has undergone a full series of examinations and all necessary medical procedures.

“Everything within our power has been done to ensure the patient’s safety to the greatest possible degree. Given his age and all relevant factors, the situation is not straightforward. He is currently in the intensive care unit, where he is being monitored continuously, and every necessary measure is being taken to stabilise all vital parameters as swiftly as possible.
Observation will, of course, continue,” the Minister of Health stated.

According to the attending physician, the Patriarch’s condition is presently stable, though it remains a matter of serious concern.

“The patient was admitted with a massive gastrointestinal haemorrhage. The appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures have been carried out. He has been placed in the critical care and resuscitation unit. His condition remains critical, and haemodynamic instability persists,” the physician said.
