Parliamentary Committees give consent that Prosecutor’s Office applied to Court with mediation to impose imprisonment to Nika Melia
The Georgian Parliamentary Procedural and Legal Affairs Committees today gave consent that the General Prosecutor’s Office applied to Court with mediation to impose imprisonment to Nika Melia, MP of the National Movement Party.
The 6 MPs of Procedural Committee voted for, one – against, while lawmakers of Legal Affairs Committee supported the issue with 9 votes and 3 – against.
Georgian lawmakers discussed the issue of suspension of MP’s immunity to Nika Melia at the joint sitting of two parliamentary committees. The sitting proceeded under the background of harsh statements and noise. Nika Melia did not attend the sitting. The final decision will be made during the plenary session.
The General Prosecutor’s Office charged Nika Melia, a member of the National Movement, in connection with the June 20 developments in front of the parliament building at Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi on June 25.
