The parliament will determine the date for electing the president at the plenary meeting today.
According to Irakli Kadagishvili, the chair of the parliamentary Self-Governance Committee, the presidential candidate’s identity will be revealed later.
“The president will be elected by the assembly of voters, and the name of the candidate will be disclosed shortly. In terms of how the president should serve, it is essential that they uphold the constitution of the country and the interests of Georgia. During this period, certain discrepancies have arisen between the president’s responsibilities and their actual actions. In many respects, their powers are largely symbolic and representative. The misalignment between political ambition and effective governance mechanisms has frequently resulted in deviations. The new president will be elected in accordance with their status,” Kadagishvili stated.
