“The State Department’s representatives emphasised two specific points in their statement, and those points are precisely the confirmation of the shared values we have been speaking about. This visit confirmed, on matters of principle, that we share common values,” said Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili.

He added that shared interests are equally important.

“What matters are common interests, whether economic or otherwise, and above all, the mutual recognition of those interests, the search for common ground, and the ability to reach agreement. This is exactly what we mean when we express our readiness for a reset of relations, one built on the national interests of both peoples. The delegation’s statement confirms precisely this: that our approach, our vision for what these relations should look like, has been vindicated,” Papuashvili stated.

The U.S. State Department delegation released a statement on June 1 after visiting Georgia, declaring that “the United States looks forward to working with the Georgian government towards a partnership that fully realises the potential of the bilateral relationship.”
