Georgian Parliament Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili, held a meeting with a parliamentary delegation from the United Kingdom, led by Jonathan Djanogly, the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Georgia in the British Parliament.
The meeting highlighted the Georgia-UK strategic relationship, with a particular focus on productive high-level visits in the first half of 2023.
The Wardrop dialogue, which significantly contributes to cooperation between Georgia and the United Kingdom, was a central topic of discussion. Both sides emphasized strong parliamentary cooperation, including close ties between friendship groups, and expressed their readiness to deepen cooperation further.
The conversation also touched on Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations. Shalva Papuashvili outlined the security challenges and expressed gratitude to the United Kingdom for its support on Georgia’s path toward NATO membership.
Additionally, the Speaker drew attention to the updated integrated study of the United Kingdom’s foreign, security, defense, and development policy, published in March 2023, which mentions Georgia and uses the term occupation for the first time.
Jonathan Djanogly affirmed the UK’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and trans-Atlantic integration.
