Parliament Speaker meets CPLP Executive Secretary

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili met Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Portuguese Speaking States (CPLP) Zakaria da Costa.

Shalva Papuashvili noted that friendly relations with Portugal made a significant contribution to the development of Georgia’s contacts with Lusophone countries.

According to the Speaker, the status of an associated observer country of the Commonwealth of Portuguese Speaking States (CPLP) is important for the successful implementation of the policy of non-recognition of the occupied territories of Georgia.

Shalva Papuashvili thanked the Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth and the member states of the Commonwealth of Portuguese-speaking States for their contribution to strengthening the territorial integrity of Georgia.

The parties also discussed Russian aggression and contemporary challenges of international security.

The importance of respecting the rules-based international agenda was emphasized.

Zakaria da Costa noted that the Commonwealth of Portuguese-speaking States is ready for further cooperation with Georgia and the promotion of non-recognition policy.

The Speaker’s Parliamentary Delegation in Portugal is comprised of MPs Levan Ioseliani, David Songulashvili, Beka Odisharia, Levan Karumidze, and Irma Zavradashvili, as well as the Speaker’s Cabinet Chief, Levan Makhashvili.
