Parliament not to make decision about judicial candidates of Supreme Court this week
The Georgian parliament will not make a decision about the judicial candidates of Supreme Court this week and will postpone discussions about the revision of candidates till Spring Session – Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of Parliament stated.
According to Kobakhidze, presentation of the candidates on part of Justice Supreme Council was justified since only 10 judges are present in the court out of 28 that hampers efficient working process and timely discussion and resolution of cases.
“Various stakeholders expressed their wish that the candidates be selected in accordance with the pre-defined procedure and criteria. Considering the above and today’s statement of the High Council of Justice, the Parliament of Georgia will not make a decision regarding the judicial candidates at the current session. The Parliament will return to this issue immediately after the beginning of the spring session in order to ensure timely staffing of the Supreme Court with highly qualified personnel,” Kobakhidze said.
The Justice Supreme Council released a statement about the candidates earlier this afternoon which said that the council selected worthy candidates for staffing the Supreme Court with highly qualified personnel.
