A new rule introduced in the Law on Weapons aims to automatically suspend firearm licenses for individuals who are identified as having mental illness, alcoholism, drug addiction, or other substance abuse issues.
The legislative package, initiated at today’s Parliament Bureau session and proposed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, stipulates that if such conditions are detected through the unified information base, the firearm license or permit to purchase, keep, or carry weapons will be suspended.
License holders will retain the right to legally dispose of their weapons for a period of 30 days following the suspension.
