Organized by Beka Odisharia, the chairman of the Diaspora and Caucasus Affairs Committee, successful diasporans working abroad were recognized and awarded in the parliament.
During the event, Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, addressed the successful diaspora, saying “It is high time that we look at the diaspora as successful Georgians who maintain contact with Georgia and strengthen the country.”
Shalva Papuashvili drew attention to the role of the Georgian Church abroad.
“Church is the place where Georgians have the opportunity to find each other and support each other. Sunday schools near the church have a great role. It is important to preserve the connection with the motherland, including linguistic, cultural, and spiritual”, Papuashvili added.
Certificates of appreciation were presented to successful diaspora members who are actively involved in business in the United States of America and various European countries. The event was attended by members of Parliament, the Bishop of North America, Reverend Saba, and representatives of the Georgian diaspora.
The final award ceremony for successful immigrants will be held on September 14 at the Rustaveli National Theater.
