Parliament approves merger of Regional Development and Infrastructure Ministries

The Georgian Parliament approved the merger of the Ministry of Regional Development and the Ministry of Infrastructure, with 83 MPs voting in favor and one against.

The package of amendments to the Law on the Structure, Powers and Rules of Operation of the Government was presented to Parliament during the plenary session in its third reading by Parliamentary Secretary of the Government Vakhtang Bachiashvili.

Under the amendments, the two state agencies — the Ministry of Regional Development and the Ministry of Infrastructure — will be merged into a single institution, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure.

The position of State Minister for Coordination of Law Enforcement Agencies will also be abolished.
