Parliament appeals to international community to give appropriate assessment to Archil Tatunashvili's death
Tamar Chugoshvili, First Vice Speaker of the parliament and Tamar Khulordava, Chairperson of the Committee on European Integration appeal to the international community to give appropriate assessment to the death of citizen of Georgia Archil Tatunashvili as well as actions taken by the Russian occupation regime on the occupied territories of Georgia.
“On February 22, the occupation regime illegally detained three of citizens of Georgia – Archil Tatunashvili, Levan Kutashvili and Ioseb Pavliashvili, in Akhalgori. On Fabruary 23, it became known that Archil Tatunashvili died in uncertain circumstances.
Representatives of EU Monitoring Mission and co-chairs of Geneva International Discussions were immediate informed about this grave fact, for which the Russian Federation is directly responsible, as a force exercising full control on the ground.
We call on the observation mission and the international community to make due and timely reaction, with the aim to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of Tatunashvili, immediately release detainees and give appropriate reaction to this grave fact”, – the statement released by Tamar Khulordava reads.
In addition, Chairperson of the Committee on European Integration calls on the European Parliament to adopt a resolution reaffirming support of Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Tamar Chugoshvili, First Vice Speaker of the parliament has already informed the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe about the fact and called on to make a proper assessment.
