Paralympic Fencing Triumph: Irma Khetsuriani claims gold at World Cup in São Paulo

At the 2025 World Cup tournament in São Paulo, Brazil, Irma Khetsuriani secured a gold medal in wheelchair sabre fencing (Category B).

The Georgian para-athlete defeated Italian Giulia Markovska 15:5 in the semi-final match. In the final, she overcame Belarusian Anastasia Kostyuchkova 15:12 to become the tournament champion.

At the same tournament, an all-Georgian final took place in sabre fencing (Category A) – Nina Tibilashvili and Gvantsa Zadishvili faced each other. The Georgian athletes delivered outstanding performances and shared the top honours – Nina Tibilashvili defeated Gvantsa Zadishvili 15:8 to win the gold medal, while Gvantsa Zadishvili secured the silver.

The Georgian women’s wheelchair fencing team, Irma Khetsuriani, Nina Tibilashvili, and Gvantsa Zadishvili will compete in foil fencing at the São Paulo World Cup on February 22.
