Papuashvili: We stand with Turkish people in their tragedy

“These days, we stand with the Turkish people in this tragedy,” said the Speaker of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.

He added that he had publicly expressed his condolences to the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament last night.

“I would like to extend my sympathies regarding the Turkish military aircraft that crashed within Georgian territory. I conveyed my condolences to the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament yesterday; we share in this grief. These are difficult times, and we stand united with the Turkish people in their sorrow,” said Shalva Papuashvili.

For context, on November 11, a Turkish military plane crashed in the Sighnaghi municipality, approximately five kilometres from Georgia’s border. The aircraft was en route from Azerbaijan to Türkiye.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway under Part 4 of Article 275 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to violations of air transport safety or operational regulations resulting in loss of life.
The Turkish Ministry of Defence reports that twenty servicemen were on board the crashed aircraft.
