Papuashvili: Gvaramia openly admitted that certain opposition factions wanted war purely to line their own pockets; it is self-indictment

“As the saying goes, ‘what is in the vessel is what flows out of it’. These people think of nothing but finances and money; it is exactly how they moved on from the tragedy and war of 2008, with that thrown-in 4 billion dollars with which they quieted their own consciences,” the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, stated.

The Speaker of the Parliament was asked to comment on a statement by Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the Opposition Alliance, who remarked: “When Ukraine wins the war soon, trillions will be spent on Ukraine’s reconstruction over the next decade, but Georgia won’t be allowed anywhere near those trillions. The whole of Europe will be busy with construction and making money.”

“We did not fight, our villages and cities were not destroyed, and our people did not die. This is precisely why Nika Gvaramia and his like-minded associates were dragging us into war, both those who were inside parliament at the time and those outside, including the NGOs who organised demonstrations demanding that we send our fighters to Ukraine.

They were dragging us into a war just so that, at the end of it, they could have access to millions, billions, or trillions. They have money plastered over their eyes. They think only of profiting from war. We know that there are groups who profit from war; that is why wars are sometimes driven by the fact that certain individuals want to line their own pockets.

This man has openly admitted that there are political groups in Georgia who wanted war to subsequently line their own pockets. This is a self-indictment that confirms what we have seen for a long time. This is how they view the 2008 war as well. They received 4 billion dollars and were happy. They received this money to build houses for refugees who had fled their actual homes, but could anything replace their homes or those who died?

It seems that in the eyes of Gvaramia, his political associates, and their foreign superiors, money is the compensation for death and destruction. To them, everything has a price. This is a stark exposure of the horror they were dragging us into. They were grooming us for war, for the destruction of our cities and villages, and the deaths of women and children, simply so they could receive money afterwards,” Shalva Papuashvili stated.
