Over 50 UN member states and EU, including Georgia, join joint statement in support of Ukraine

Over 50 United Nations member states and the European Union, including Georgia, joined a joint statement in support of Ukraine, calling on Russia to cease fire in Ukraine. Ukrainian Foreign Ministry released the document on September 23, ahead of the UN Security Council meeting.

The signatories of the joint statement expressed solidarity with Ukraine and deep concern over the escalation of Russia’s actions against civilians and civilian infrastructure across Ukraine.

The statement says that Ukraine agreed to a full, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire starting in March 2025.

“We call on Russia to finally do the same. This is an essential step on the path of constructive diplomacy and peace negotiations,” reads the statement.

With the statement, Russia is urged to immediately ensure the return to Ukraine of all arbitrarily detained, forcibly displaced, or deported Ukrainian civilians, particularly children, as well as the return of all prisoners of war.

“Ukraine strives for peace. We strive for peace. Russia must cease its aggression, agree to a ceasefire, and engage constructively in negotiations to achieve a comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace, in accordance with international law,” stated Andrii Sybiha, Foreign Minister of Ukraine.

The USA is not among the signatory countries.

The signatories of the joint statement are: Ukraine, Albania, Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Honduras, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, South Korea, Moldova, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
