Opposition parties announce "full mobilization" for 2nd reading of Transparency Law
Opposition political parties – Akhali, Girchi – More Freedom, Droa, United National Movement, Lelo for Georgia, and Strategy Aghmashenebeli on Thursday released a joint statement to express “full coordination and mobilization” for the second reading of the GD-tabled Transparency Law.
According to the statement, “the Russian law initiated by Georgian Dream (GD) is in contradiction with the Constitution of Georgia, with the Georgian people’s will Georgia to become a full-fledged member of the European Union and NATO.”
“The frightened Russian oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili, using an aggressive parliamentary group and a violent police unit, is attempting to destroy Georgia’s European future, which has been challenged by a robust, powerful, and unified Georgian population.
Even though the Georgian Dream accepted the Russian law in the first reading, the main battle is still ahead. We, the democratic, pro-Western political parties of Georgia, realize the importance of united efforts in this fight and declare full coordination and mobilization for the day of the second reading of the law in order to do everything together with our people to save the country’s European future.
The Georgian people were, are, and will continue to be the primary guarantee of our country’s European and Euro-Atlantic destiny, and any attempt to undermine this decision will inevitably fail.
Yes, to Europe! Not to Russian legislation! “Not to the Russian government,” the statement read.
