Opposition MPs remark on UNM’s demand to restore party lists
Opposition MPs remarked on the demand of the United National Movement (UNM) party to restore the party lists.
Opposition MP Iago Khvichia believes that expelling MPs is a wrong move, and nobody has the right to suspend authority to a lawmaker elected by the people. He said the opposition’s false move made the ruling Georgian Dream stronger.
Aleko Elisashvili, MP of the Citizens party, said the UNM made a childish move, and the Citizens party got insulted when calling the UNM to revert. “Now, let them apologize because we were right,” Elisashvili said.
According to the Strategy Aghmashenebeli party leader Giorgi Vashadze, the Georgian Dream (GD) party tries to weaken the opposition. “The opposition’s minus three mandates will be a guarantee that GD retains a solid majority,” Vashadze claimed.
UNM member Levan Bezhashvili believes that the opposition should have as many representatives in the parliament as voters determined. “Refusal to restore the lists is a political persecution,” Bezhashvili noted.
Khatia Dekanoidze, Chairperson of the United National Movement (UNM) parliamentary faction, demanded to restore the electoral lists of opposition parties annulled by the Central Election Commission (CEC) at the news briefing on Tuesday.
