“Visa restrictions will be the first step in US sanctions, also targeting high-ranking police officials,” opposition MP Khatia Dekanoidze stated.
According to Khatia Dekanidze, the statement of the US Secretary of State means the US Department of State has the authority and obligation to impose sanctions, together with the initiatives of the Congress and Senate, on certain individuals, and the Spokesperson Matthew Miller confirmed that yesterday.
“It is possible that all involved appear on the sanctioned list, and it might happen so. These will be visa restrictions and financial sanctions. To my information, visa restriction will be the first step in US sanctions, also targeting high-ranking police officials who violated human rights.
I comprehend that their discontent leads them to engage in personal insults and propagandistic communication. Additionally, there are instances of Georgian Dream MPs concealing their family members residing or studying in the United States. I find it perplexing why they would choose to conceal this information, especially considering their knowledge that their impending expulsion from the US is inevitable. Although the exact nature of these communications, whether transmitted via email or telephone, remains uncertain, evidence suggests their existence. Conversations among Georgian Dream MPs reflect concerns regarding the potential expulsion of their family members from the United States,” stated Khatia Dekanoidze.
“We’ve announced a new sanctions policy. We have not yet announced individual sanctions. And I’ll leave it at that,” said Matthew Miller, US Department of State Spokesperson at the daily press briefing, adding: “We have made clear that we would not hesitate to impose them.”
