Opposition MP says unemployment decreases due to Georgians' emigration, Russians' employment
Unemployment reduction in Georgia is due to the immigration of Georgian citizens and employment of Russians in the country, said Roman Gotsiridze, opposition MP.
Roman Gotsiridze expressed concern that Russian citizens establish companies in Georgia and register as individual entrepreneurs.
“Russian citizens in Georgia have registered twenty thousand individual entrepreneurs since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. They have serious businesses and employ their citizens. Unemployment in Georgia decreases due to the employment of Russian citizens and the departure of Georgian citizens abroad,” he said.
In the II quarter of 2023, the unemployment rate in Georgia decreased by 1.4 percentage points compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and now stands at 16.7 %, the National Statistics Service (GeoStat) reported.
