Opposition blocks Gumista Bridge in occupied Abkhazia amid protests
In occupied Abkhazia, so-called opposition representatives have blocked the Gumista Bridge while demanding the release of detained individuals, Echo Kavkaza reported.
Protesters are insisting on the freedom of “illegally detained opposition members” who opposed the ratification of a contentious “agreement on Russian investments.”
In addition, citizens have gathered at the building of the so-called security service, with video footage capturing attempts to enter the premises. Earlier, Telegram channels reported that several members of the so-called opposition had been detained.
Occupied Abkhazia is scheduled to vote on a draft “agreement on preferential conditions for Russian investments,” which proposes exemptions for investors from customs duties, corporate property tax, and income tax for eight years, alongside a reduced value-added tax of five per cent.
Opinions in occupied Abkhazia are divided, with some citizens arguing that this agreement could harm the economy and threaten the region’s security.
