Official welcoming ceremony held for Georgian President at Milan Linate Airport

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili, along with his wife Tamar Bagrationi and an official delegation, is visiting Milan to attend the opening ceremony of the XXV Winter Olympic Games.

According to the Presidential Administration, an official welcoming ceremony for the Georgian president was held at Milan Linate International Airport.

During the visit, President Kavelashvili will meet with Georgia’s Olympic delegation and attend the figure skating team competition to support Georgian athletes.

Ahead of the opening ceremony, the president will participate in a dinner hosted by Italian President Sergio Mattarella in honor of foreign heads of state attending the Games. He will also attend a reception hosted by International Olympic Committee President Kirsty Coventry.

The main opening ceremony event will take place at San Siro Olympic Stadium in Milan.

Georgia is represented at the Winter Olympics by eight athletes competing in two sports: figure skating and alpine skiing.
