Official Kiev asks for keeping 2008 Bucharest NATO Summit promise

Official Kiev asks for keeping the promise made during the 2008 Bucharest NATO Summit regarding integration of Ukraine and Georgia in the alliance.

Olga Stefanishyna, Ukraine’s deputy prime minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration made this statement during her speech at the online forum on security issues.

“13 years passed after the Summit, which made the decision that Ukraine and Georgia would become NATO members. We are in a situation which requires keeping the promise,” Olga Stefanishyna said.

Ukraine’s deputy prime minister expressed hope that the upcoming NATO Summit would consider assigning Membership Action Plan (MAP) to the two countries. She said NATO should demonstrate that Russia has no right to veto in the alliance.
