Officers of Georgia’s Central Criminal Police Department arrest individual wanted by FBI for serious crimes
Officers from the Central Criminal Police Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), in collaboration with the Prosecutor General’s Office, have apprehended an individual wanted internationally by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for multiple serious offences. The operation was conducted under a joint agreement with the U.S. State Department and via close cooperation with the FBI.
The arrest took place at Tbilisi International Airport following thorough investigative efforts.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that the individual was detained following active investigative procedures.
“This person was wanted by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for various offences, including charges of aiding and abetting criminal activity, criminal conspiracy, and money laundering.
Extradition proceedings are currently underway against the detainee in accordance with the law.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has been successfully cooperating with United States law enforcement agencies for many years against various categories of crime, including organised crime,” the statement noted.
