No law prohibits funding president's son, jailed Saakashvili says

At today’s trial over charges of the embezzlement of the state funds, Georgia’s jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili said that “no law prohibits funding the president’s son. Eduard is a particularly talented man.”

“My son Eduard was mentioned earlier in the context of us spending [funds] on his education at the American Academy, where he was the best graduate of all time. You can check it in the archives of the American Academy.

Friends, in 2013, I transferred 5 million from the President’s Reserve Fund to send Georgian students abroad. Or rather 6,300,000 mln, how much did you transfer?”

You all understand well what this process is about – an intimidated, trembling oligarch trying to silence me, trying to break my morals,” Saakashvili said.

Today, Mikheil Saakashvili again stood before the judges, facing charges of the embezzlement of GEL 9,024,367 of state funds, also known as the “Case of Suits.” The next hearing is scheduled for December 27.
