I have never thought that I could feel so proud in my life – Nika Melia, a member of the parliamentary oppositional National Movement Party told journalists after the plenary session.  He said that he would serve his term in the prison of Bidzina Ivanishvili (Chairman of Georgian Dream Party) and would leave jail in free Georgia.

According to Melia, those lawmakers who voted for the issue that the General Prosecutor’s Office applied to the Court with the motion to impose imprisonment to Nika Melia, were in captivity and had to be liberated.

On the question where he would wait for the decision about imprisonment, Melia said that he would arrive at the parliament and meet with his supporters. “My colleagues from different oppositional parties and the healthy part of the society will continue to struggle for freedom. Nobody will suppress this strive,” Melia said.

The Georgian parliament today held the voting and agreed that the General Prosecutor’s Office applied to the Court with the motion to impose imprisonment to Nika Melia, MP of the National Movement Party. Lawmakers discussed the issue at the plenary sitting. The 91 MPs voted for, and 0 – against.

The Georgian Parliamentary Procedural and Legal Affairs Committees discussed Nika Melia’s issue earlier this afternoon. The 6 MPs of Procedural Committee voted for, one – against, while lawmakers of Legal Affairs Committee supported the issue with 9 votes and 3 – against.

On June 25, the General Prosecutor’s Office charged Nika Melia, a member of the National Movement, in connection with the June 20 developments in front of the parliament building at Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi.
