Nika Gvaramia detained amid legal proceedings
The law enforcement authorities detained Coalition for Change leader Nika Gvaramia.
According to officials, Gvaramia will initially be transferred to the Rustavi Police Department to undergo certain procedures, after which he will be returned to the Rustavi Penitentiary Institution.
“To carry out necessary procedures, he will be moved to the Rustavi Police Department and then returned to the Rustavi Penitentiary Institution, specifically to Institution No. 12,” one of the law enforcement officials stated.
Today, Gvaramia’s trial took place at the Tbilisi City Court. Judge Jvebe Nachkebia granted a change in the preventive measure, replacing bail with imprisonment. The decision was made due to the failure to pay the bail set by the court.
Nika Gvaramia was not present in the courtroom. Before the proceedings, he declared that he would voluntarily come to the Rustavi penitentiary himself.
Nika Gvaramia was issued a bail of GEL 30,000 as a preventive measure for failing to appear before the parliamentary temporary investigative commission, studying the 2003-2012 government and its officials. Gvaramia stated that he would not pay the bail, which had a deadline of June 7.
