The next meeting of the Holy Synod, which will select three patriarchal candidates, will be held on April 24, Andria Jaghmaidze, Head of Public Relations Service of the Georgian Orthodox Church (GOC), told reporters.

According to Jaghmaidze, today’s meeting of the Holy Synod defined organisational issues.

“The meeting defined certain procedures for the next sitting and an extended meeting. Three commissions were established: mandate, vote counting and editorial. Members of these commissions will be determined. The names of the commissions themselves speak for their function. Patriarch’s election is not an easy process; votes should be counted, many delegates will attend the extended meeting, and everything should be arranged.

There should be no ambiguity at any level. Therefore, there is a lot to be done in terms of organisation, and an agreement on these topics is needed. We know that the expanded session will be held in the Trinity Cathedral, and the next Synod meeting will be on April 24,” he said.
